Travel with a legal Lao Agency
When choosing a local travel agency to organise your trip to Laos, we recommend checking that it is legally registered in the country, has a verifiable physical address and holds the licences required to operate.

Some companies may present themselves as local agencies through a website dedicated to Laos while actually being established and managed from a neighbouring country.
Communicating exclusively through a Thai or Vietnamese phone number does not necessarily indicate anything improper, but it may be a reason to request further information about the agency’s legal identity and actual presence in Laos.

Before booking, consider checking the agency’s company registration number, tourism licence, physical address in Laos on Google Maps and local contact details.

Choosing an agency officially registered in Laos helps ensure compliance with local regulations and tax obligations. It also means dealing with a clearly identifiable company that holds the authorisations and documentation required to organise and manage your journey.
In the event of an official inspection, incident or accident during your trip, these safeguards can make it easier to coordinate with service providers, insurance companies and local authorities. A slightly lower price should therefore not be the only consideration: legality, transparency and operational safety are equally important.

You should also pay close attention to the bank details provided when confirming your booking. If an agency claims to be legally established in Laos but asks you to transfer payment directly to a bank account in another country, this is an important point to clarify.
This arrangement is not necessarily irregular when an official booking platform or international payment provider is processing the transaction. However, the agency should be able to explain clearly who is receiving your payment, in which country and in what capacity.
The name of the bank account holder should be consistent with the company named on your contract, invoice or booking confirmation. If you are unsure, ask for the agency’s Lao company registration number, tourism licence and documentation confirming the identity of the entity receiving your payment.
