Excursion to Kbal Spean and Banteay Srei temple

Breakfast at the hotel.

Day with English-speaking guide

Departure around 8.00am from your hotel to take the road for about 1 hour to Kbal Spean, the river of a thousand lingas. This river rises in the Kulen Mountains (the Lychee Mountain). It's a 45-minute walk through the tropical forest to reach the summit. Likened to the Ganges in India, the Kbal Spean riverbed itself is sculpted over 200 metres long: 1,054 lingas and sculptures represent the Hindu gods.

Lunch in a local restaurant.

You will take the road (about 1 hour) to discover Banteay Srei, ‘the Citadel of Women’, whose architecture and pink sandstone sculptures are a masterpiece of Khmer art. Abundant decoration covers the walls and lintels without ever repeating itself, and the perfection of the sculptures is remarkable.

Note: Visitors to Banteay Srei should cover their shoulders and wear knee-length clothing.

You will then go to a village to watch palm sugar being made. You will then visit a pagoda and take a break in a Khmer house to quench your thirst with a fresh coconut juice. Finally, a stop at the sanctuary of Banteay Samrè will allow you to admire this masterpiece of the classical period, masterfully restored.
